Taking of Pelham 123

Another movie I have enjoyed this year is the Taking of Pelham 123. This movie is a remake, though I have not seen the orignal. It is the story of the hijacking of a subway train. The fact that it stars both John Travolta and Denzel Washington had me hooked from get go.
Having both of these powerhouses in one movie could have been a big mistake or a major triumph. Luckily for the movie studio, it was the latter. The way these two played their respective characters worked very well together. We had Travolta at his cocky, arrogant best. Washington was mild mannered, and cool under pressure.
There are some back stories in this movie as well. How Washington's character has fallen from grace is a big one. It seems to motivate him to take a few very big chances in the movie. I found his character to be a bit less engaging than Travolta's, but I have yet to put my finger on why. I think it may simply be the fact that he was so understated through out most of the movie.
If you are a fan of either of the two main actors, this movie is a MUST SEE. These two together made a powerful team, and I hope to see them work together in the future. The movie its self is well written, if a little predictable. The ending was a bit unexpected, which does redeem the script a great deal in my eyes.
