One movie I could watch over and over is Sweeney Todd. This movie stars Johnny Depp, amongst others. The fact that he was the title character and that Tim Burton was the director is what finally got me to watch it. Though this movie is not for the faint of heart or very young children, it is neither overly gory nor disgusting…or at least it wasn’t to me.

I am sure we have all heard a tale or two about the barber of Fleet Street. There are many versions, but this movie adaptation was excellent I thought.

The movie is easily recognizable as a Burton film. Mr. Burton is the master of Gothic and dark films. Most of us recognize him from the Nightmare Before Christmas, if no other movie.

Depp does an excellent job as the title character. The man does creepy well, and it was interesting to hear him sing throughout the movie. The actress who played Todd’s partner in crime was also well chosen. She was just sinister enough, without loosing that feminine quality that made her demise a bit sad…but understandable from Todd’s point of view.

I enjoyed this movie a good deal. It was just dark and sinister enough, and the scenes that are bloody were just right. Not too overly done, but not wimped out on either. You can’t cut someone's neck without arterial spray…which sounds sick, but it was just a part of the plot that was well done I thought.

If you’ve enjoyed Burton’s other movies, then you should definitely see this one. It has a minor twist at the end that I thought was very poetic and well done.
