James Cameron's Avatar

Postby Corvyday » Thu Dec 17, 2009 9:53 pm

Avatar is James Cameron's biggest blockbuster yet. The film premise is about crippled ex-Marine Jake Sully arriving on an alien moon called Pandora. The moon is contains a precious and very expensive that is being extensively mined by the human race. Pandora is home to a wide variety of species, including the only other intelligent species humans have ever encountered: the Na'vi.

The Na'vi are a race of tall, feline humanoids that possess only a low level of technology. The humans have created the Avatar Program, where people can "wear" the body of a vat-grown human-Na'vi hybrid to mingle with the natives.

Of course, things between the two species do not go well. The rest you'll have to watch it for yourself.

I loved Avatar. Much of the internet was alive with anti-hype backlash, but I think they should just go see the movie before making any judgements. The 3D was presented really well. It was subtle, and not everything in the movie was flying in your face.

The story was the weakest part of the film. It was cliched, and the characters were terribly one-dimensional. But all that doesn't matter. Because c'mon, who watches a end-year blockbuster for its deep, engaging storylines?

Pandora is absolutely stunning, and it was clear a lot of work was put into designing the flora and fauna of the alien moon. The Na'vi themselves are very believable, even when put beside the human actors, and it wasn't hard to sympathise with their plight.

I give the show a 4/5. Go watch it now!
