I got a chance to see the new Brad Pitt movie, Inglourious Basterds, a few weeks ago. I had seen previews in so many other movies I’d gone to see but wasn’t sure if I would like the movie or not. The previews led me to think it would be pretty gory, but that doesn’t bother me. There was just something about the previews that didn’t grab me enough to make me want to rush out and see it. I am glad I did take the time to watch it now.

The movie is about a secret squad of military men behind Nazi lines in World Word II France. These men are out to kill as many Nazi’s as they can. Or so the previews led you to believe. While they do kill a good many Nazis, that is not the bulk of the movie.

The first scene makes you wonder if you are watching the correct movie. It is centered around a family on a dairy farm in rural France. You will learn much later how it applies. I personally found it to be very poetic once that part of the plot was revealed.

All in all, this is a good movie. There are other films by Tarantino that I like more, but this is a very watchable movie. Pitt did a very good job with his character as well. His accent makes the movie in some ways, I thought. The casting was well done, and every character that was central to the plot is memorable. Some of my favorite scenes involved the person portraying Hitler…one scene actually made me laugh as he is throwing a tantrum.

I would recommend anyone who has enjoyed Tarantino's other movies to give this one a try. It is most definitely not the movie I expected from the previews, it was much better.
